Every week, arenas, domes, and transit systems move and host tens of thousands of people. The Disaster Prevention Platform initiative asks what those same places can do when an earthquake, typhoon, or flood hits the city around them. Launched through a Joint Declaration signed on January 17, 2026 by Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, Farglory Dome Co., Ltd., and Tokyo Dome Corporation, DPP treats large urban venues as active parts of a city\u2019s resilience, with roles in prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery that go well beyond serving as evacuation sites.<\/p>\n
The partners are moving away from reactive, cyclical disaster planning toward a \u201cCapability Model\u201d informed by the Sendai Framework, in which facilities prepare their environments well before a crisis arrives. They are also building a permanent platform for working with government, medical, and academic partners, and they plan to share what they learn with venues across the Pacific Rim and beyond.<\/p>\n
DPP also puts the energy of sports and entertainment to work. Because people already come to these venues for concerts and games, the venues can make disaster awareness part of a good day out, a gentle \u201cnudge\u201d that reaches people in ways public safety campaigns often can\u2019t. The initiative\u2019s longer aim is Regenerative Urbanism: cities that absorb disaster risk safely and become more inclusive, diverse, and livable along the way.<\/p>\n
