WORKHOUSE: Research Studio at A+D Museum
WORKHOUSE Research Studio is on display at A+D Museum.
Duration: September 21, 2019 – January 12, 2020
“This new type of space, its sudden appearance analogous to the growth in manufactories in the 19th century, can be read as an economic tool as well as an architectural trope, where design is mobilized to create a peculiar sense of place and to organize and manage resources.”
– Fig projects, Around the World in Six Coworking Spaces
About Research Studio:
Co-working spaces are currently under explosive development and are beginning to be subject to critical evaluation, conversation, and experimentation. The consideration and coordination of relationships is extremely important in the process of understanding and designing spaces that respond to contemporary shifts in technology, the economy, lifestyles, and culture.
With the evolution in work-lifestyle and the rapid development of mobile technology, specific activities have been released from the building forms that once separated and regulated them. WORKHOUSE Research Studio studies coworking as a catalytic program, independent of a building type and capable of promoting new programmatic relationships.
About the exhibition:
The Los Angeles Schools is a collection of work and statements from the community of architecture students in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a center for architectural production, investigation, and research and produces the leaders of tomorrow in the world of architecture and design. While the plethora of schools that exist in Los Angeles is incomparable they do indeed rarely have an opportunity to come together to speak even louder, allowing them to speak beyond their own walls and stand for what the city of Los Angeles will be in the generations to come. The exhibition features the work of students from LA’s premier Architecture Schools: Cal Poly LA Metro, SCI-Arc, USC Schools of Architecture, UCLA Architecture and Urban Design.
